In December 2016, 15 Chinese agronomists coming from 5 different provinces (Heilongjiang, Chongqing, Inner Mongolia, Beijing and Henan) participated to a CARAH training class in Ath.

A first group of eleven came to train on potato crop, with modules on transformation, production and certification of seeds, fertilization and mechanization. This group is following a continuous training program with CARAH and already took part to two training classes at the sino-belgian potato center of Wuxi. Different visits of farms and companies were organized. Trainees visited Sabbe VRS, Comexplant, Lutosa, Rosier, AVR and Belfrits, where they were warmly welcomed. Moreover, numerous theoretical classes were given by CARAH staff and by external speakers such as Caroline Schollaert from the Walloon Public Service.

A second group of 4, coming from the Zhengzhou Vegetable Research Institute (Henan), joined the first group for a part of the potato crop training class. Moreover, this group participated to a module on organic farming. This module included meetings with Luc Pinon, teacher on organic farming at HEPH Condorcet, with Tom Nizet from Certisys, with the team of PCGroenteteelt and with Francis Dumortier of the farm “La Rousellerie”.

Beyond of the agronomical repercussions of these training classes, this training session was also a beautiful opportunity for intercultural exchanges with the CARAH staff and with external trainers. The success of these training classes ends 2016 on a highlight and pledges a busy 2017 year for the CARAH cooperation with China.
